Banking Inquiry facing challenge to meet mid-January deadline

One of the members of the committee charged with finalising the report of the Banking Inquiry has said there remains a challenging task ahead.

Labour Senator Susan O'Keeffe said time was not on the inquiry's side, but they were still working to the January deadline.

It emerged at the weekend that the Inquiry may be on the verge of collapse after members expressed their dissatisfaction with the first draft report.

Senator O'Keeffe said they were still working together as a team to get a report out.

She said: "The timetable remains as it was (mid-January)...We're looking at what is the best way of honing this draft into the findings that we believe were made by the committee."
