Four adults and two children have been taken to hospital after a house fire in Dublin's North Inner City.

A man reportedly rescued a baby by catching it as it was thrown from an upstairs window down to him.

The fire broke out in the Gloucester Place area at around 5am this morning.

Six units of the Fire Brigade and three ambulances attended the scene.

The two children have been taken to Temple Street Hospital, while the four adults are being treated at the Mater.

They are understood to be suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
