Average public sector earnings up 2.8%

Average weekly earnings in the public sector are up 2.8% in the last year.

Average weekly earnings in the public sector are up 2.8% in the last year, according to official figures released today.

That compares to a drop of 0.5% in the private sector.

The latest report from the CSO shows that the average weekly wage in the public sector at the end of June this year was €918.99, while the average for private sector workers was €611.66.

In the last three years, public sector weekly earnings are down 2.9% overall, while in the last four years there has been a drop of 3.9% in the private sector.
