The Army bomb squad has made safe a pipe bomb found in Rathkeale, Co Limerick.

The Army bomb squad has made safe a pipe bomb found in Rathkeale, Co Limerick.

Members of the Defence Forces arrived at the scene just after 12:15pm today and evacuated a number of houses and local businesses.

The area was cordoned off during the operation which finished just after 2pm.

The device was removed for further examination and will be handed over to Gardaí to help them with their investigations.
