Concerns are being expressed over funding for the country's biggest hospital for sick children.

The Chairman of the board of directors at Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, is worried funds will run out within six months.

According to the Irish Independent, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has written to the Health Minister and the head of the HSE expressing concern over the funding gap at the Our Lady's Hospital.

He noted that at the start of this year, the hospital faced a funding shortfall of €9m and he warned that on the basis of current funding and expenditure, the facility will run of money in November.

Archbishop Martin said that if there is "no remedy found" then the hospital will not be able to maintain the current level of services.

Health Minister James Reilly is likely to face more questions when he visits the hospital later today to open a new intensive care unit.
