The National Parks and Wildlife Service is appealing for information after unauthorised turf cutting on protected bogs in Meath and Westmeath.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service is appealing for information after unauthorised turf cutting on protected bogs in Meath and Westmeath.

The turf-cutting took place without permission from landowners in the Moneybeg, Clareisland and Ross bogs.

The bogs are special conservation areas.

A spokesperson for the Department of Arts and Heritage said it was now a matter for gardaí, who are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
