Aisling Brady McCarthy arrested by US immigration

Irish nanny Aisling Brady McCarthy has been arrested by US immigration agents in Boston after being formally released from state custody.

Yesterday prosecutors dropped a murder charge against the Co Cavan woman in relation to the death of a one-year-old girl who had been in her care. `

In a statement this evening a spokesperson from US Immigration and Custom Enforcement says Aisling Brady McCarthy arrived in the US on a tourist visa in 2002 and never left.

The 37-year-old was issued with a final order of removal from the US in 2013 and will now be deported.

Spokesman Shawn Neudauer says Ms Brady McCarthy had bought a plane ticket home, but a power cut is delaying processes:”If we can make the plane ticket happen for her we will but it’s just not guaranteed that we can do it today.

"The main issue is that the office has experienced power failure and that’s hampering their efforts right now."
