Six hundred farm and food inspectors at the Department of Agriculture will engage in industrial action today in a row over cost-saving reforms.

The workers want management to increase their duties, instead of using external contractors.

IMPACT trade union says management has refused to engage in "meaningful" discussions on this issue.

Spokesperson Bernard Harbor says their demands will save the taxpayer money.
