Aer Lingus talks may resume following ICTU-IBEC statement

It is looking likely that unions involved in a dispute with Aer Lingus over pensions will return to the Labour Relations Commission for talks.

This evening, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the business body IBEC issued a joint statement calling for a resumption of talks.

It is expected that talks will resume in a bid to avoid planned industrial action on November 19.

Meanwhile, SIPTU has called an emergency meeting of its Aer Lingus pension committee for tomorrow morning, to discuss an IBEC/ICTU plan aimed at resolving the dispute.

Aer Lingus says it is willing to re-enter talks and is welcoming the recommendation that the Union groups withdraw the notice of industrial action against the airline on November 19.

However Aer Lingus says the matter is complex and there can be no certainty that agreement will be reached.
