Adams: North citizens should have presidential vote

Sinn Féin says the time has come for people living in the North to be allowed vote in the Republic of Ireland's presidential elections.

Sinn Féin says the time has come for people living in the North to be allowed vote in the Republic of Ireland's presidential elections.

The party is expected to announce whether or not it will be putting forward a presidential candidate at its Ard Comhairle meeting on July 2.

With just weeks to go until all the political parties declare what candidate they're putting forward to run in the presidential election, SF leader Gerry Adams said people living in the six counties should have the right to vote in this election.

"The Taoiseach has indicated giving votes to the diaspora," Deputy Adams said.

"We support votes for the diaspora but it is particularly important in terms of the island, that those who should want to vote from the six counties should not be excluded."
