Adams: New death threat 'worrying, but I wouldn’t over-exaggerate it'

Gerry Adams has described the latest threat against his life as worrying, after the PSNI informed him a threat had been made.

The Sinn Féin president said he continues to take precautions after previous attempts on his life.

In a statement released this morning, Mr Adams described the latest threat against his life as worrying.

He said: “The PSNI contacted me last night to make me aware of a death threat against me and the Sinn Fein leadership.

“This is a worrying development but it will not deter me or Sinn Féin from moving forward with our campaign for a new, independent Ireland of equals.”

PSNI officers called to his Belfast home to tell him about the threat, which was made by the UFF.

Mr Adams said there had been attempts on his life before. "I have been shot before (in 1984) and my home has been bombed before," he said.

"There have been a number of reported murder threats against me, but I wouldn't be over-exaggerating all of this."
