700 seek help from domestic violence support service in just one day

New figures show 700 people sought help from domestic violence support services on just one day last year.

The Just One Day census was carried out by a network of support groups on the 24-hour period of Tuesday, November 5 last.

Some 467 women and 229 children were receiving help from domestic violence services participating in the survey, on that date.

SAFE Ireland is the national network of domestic violence services in Ireland. Its CEO Sharon O'Halloran said the service providers reported the census had been carried out on a "quiet day".

"This annual census is an account of the women and children who access the services on any one day," she said.

"According to services, (Tuesday, November 5) was actually a quiet day."
