More than 100 jobs are to go at a Flextronics base, it was confirmed tonight.

Some 118 redundancies will be made at the Limerick plant following weekend talks with management.

The 64 compulsory redundancies are being taken by short-term staff with the remaining 54 being taken on a voluntary basis.

The firm, which employs 290 people in the city, provides warehousing and logistics services for a large number of companies in the region, including computer giant Dell.

“Although the job losses were regrettable they helped secure the long term future of the company,” said SIPTU branch organiser Karen O’Loughlin.

Workers will get six-and-a-half weeks pay for every year of service as part of the redundancy package.

The company was unable to be reached for comment.
