New poll confirms Fine Gael lead

The survey, published in tomorrow's Irish Daily Star, shows support for Fianna Fáil and Labour is almost neck-and-neck.

This opinion poll was conducted for the Star by OI Research.

It shows Fine Gael on 39%, repeating the recent upward trend for Enda Kenny's party, and represents their highest recent rating.

Labour are on 18%, with Fianna Fail just behind on 17%.

Sinn Féin are on 10%, the Greens on 2%, with independents on 14%.

Asked which potential candidate for Taoiseach they would trust to competently represent Ireland overseas, 39% said Micheál Martin, 35% said Mr Kenny and 32% selected Eamon Gilmore.

When it comes to how to deal with the bailout loan, an overwhelming 80% said it should be renegotiated.
