MCD boss: 50% more security than required at Phoenix Park gig

The boss of concert promotion company MCD has said there was more than the required level of security at the Swedish House Mafia concert in Dublin last weekend.

Denis Desmond and senior gardaí, who met this evening to discuss the violence at the Phoneix park gig on Saturday, are to carry out more reviews before compiling a report next month.

At least nine people were stabbed at the Swedish House Mafia gig, while a young man who had been at the concert died in hospital after he became unwell.

Gardaí are also examining whether two other young men who died had been at the event.

One man has been charged in court in connection with one of the stabbings, while it has emerged that 43 others were arrested for public order, drunkenness and drugs offences.

Mr Desmond said there were 511 security personnel present at the gig, and more than 140 gardaí

"The licence conditions would have been in the region of 400 (security personnel). We were 50% over (that)," he said.

He added he did not believe gigs in the park were now in jeopardy as a result of what he said he hoped was an isolated event, from which MCD said lessons would be learned.
