Cork garda admits stealing money from woman

A Cork garda has admitted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to stealing nearly €2,000 from a woman.

David Foran (aged 28) of Kinsale and formerly stationed at Fitzgibbon Street garda station in Dublin, pleaded guilty to the theft of property worth €1,950 from the woman in Phibsboro between October 10 and 17, 2009.

Pleas have yet to be entered on several other charges on the indictment.

Defence counsel said there are "substantial sums of money" involved in the case and there will be "the issue of compensation" at the sentencing hearing, which is expected to last up to an hour.

Judge Yvonne Murphy remanded Foran on continuing bail until November when the full facts will be heard.
