Fine Gael has announced that it will oppose the Government’s latest abortion referendum following a meeting of the party’s TDs and Senators today.

The referendum proposes to roll back a Supreme Court ruling that legalised abortion in cases where the mother’s life was at risk through suicide.

Fine Gael leader Michael Noonan said his party will campaign for a ‘no’ vote, but any party members who object to the party line will not be expected to campaign.
