Homeless figures

The number of people in the State who are homeless has reached a new high, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing.

In July, a total of 10,568 people were homeless, up from the previous high of 10,514 recorded in October 2019. The total figures included 1,423 families, 3,137 children or dependents, and 1,239 young people aged 18-24.

Focus Ireland has called for the Government to take immediate action, while the Simon Communities of Ireland described the figures as "even more disturbing when we consider the depth of the current housing crisis".

The company said about half of the 110 staff at the plant will be transferred with the business. The outcome for the rest of the jobs remains uncertain.
