SSE Airtricity is the latest energy supplier to increase prices as the energy crisis facing Irish consumers continues.

On Friday, the company announced that the unit price of its electricity would be increasing by 30 per cent and the unit price of gas would be increasing by 39 per cent from May 1st.

The move is set to impact an estimated 250,000 electricity customers and 85,000 gas customers.

Customers will see an additional €338 on their electricity bill per year while €333 a year will be added to gas bills.

Delays at Dublin Airport expected to continue

Ryanair has called for members of the army to be introduced to tackle the long delays at Dublin Airport.

It comes as passengers at the airport are being advised to arrive at least three and a half hours before their flight.

The airport has been facing major delays amid staff shortages.

Siptu's aviation sector organiser, Niall Philips has cautioned the public that there will continue to be delays at the airport and that there is no short term solution to the issue.

More than €22.5 million was stolen in cases of account takeover in 2021, a rise of 552 per cent on 2020 figures.

The majority of victims are aged 20-50, with gardaí urging young people in particular to be vigilant.

Man jailed for life over murder of pensioner

A man has been jailed for life for the brutal murder of a Kilkenny pensioner, who suffered a "torturous and painful death" and "unnatural terror" in her own home, her daughter told the Central Criminal Court on Friday.

"Death had a face; it shouldn't," Elayne Butler said of her mother's murderer, Trevor Rowe, who remained unmoving and head-bowed throughout the hearing.

Mother-of-one Anne Butler (70) was murdered on Maudlin Street in Kilkenny on March 20th, 2020, after being stabbed, beaten and mutilated by Rowe.

Dublin Zoo opens new habitat

Dublin Zoo has opened a new Himalayan habitat which will house its new pandas and snow leopards.

It is hoped that there will be a recovery in visitor numbers at the zoo this year to pre-pandemic levels.

On Friday, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar attended the opening of the new habitats.
