Dublin Airport ‘confident’ passengers will not miss flights
Dublin Airport officials have said they are “confident” that passengers will not miss flights this weekend if they arrive at the airport at the recommended time.
It comes after Dublin Airport made international headlines last weekend after long queues stretched outside the airport terminals and over 1,000 people missed their flights.
Dalton Philips, chief executive of the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA), told the Oireachtas Transport Committee on Wednesday that these delays happened due to a rostering error.
Mr Philips also conceded that the aviation sector had recovered quicker than had been anticipated, and that 248 security staff should not have been offered voluntary redundancy last year, during travel restrictions introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Low income households hit hardest by inflation
Inflation in March 2022 ranged from 6.1 per cent for higher income households to 7.6 per cent for lower income households, according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Compared with the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation figure of 6.7 per cent in March 2022, a new breakdown shows households with the lowest incomes experienced higher inflation, up to 7.6 per cent, while those in the highest income category had annual estimated inflation of 6. 1 per cent.
Households paying a mortgage had estimated annual inflation of 6.3 per cent while for households that own their home outright, inflation was estimated to be 7.0 per cent.
For those that rent their home, they had a higher than average inflation rate of 7.0 per cent for those renting from a private owner and 7.3 per cent for those renting from a local authority
Mother spared jail for allowing home to be used for storing drugs
Dublin mother of three has been spared jail for allowing her home to be used to store €14,000 worth of drugs.
Garda David O’Reilly told Fiona McGowan, BL, prosecuting, that gardaí had obtained a search warrant for the home of Wendy Dempsey (32) of Tyrone Place, Inchicore, Dublin 8.
Dublin Circuit Court heard gardaí gained entry to the property. Dempsey and her partner Patrick Kearns were at home, and a search of the property took place.
Gardai found just over €11,000 worth of cocaine in the downstairs toilet bowl, and just over €3,000 worth of heroin was also found in plain sight in the apartment.
Rescue 116 inquest rules accidental death
The jury at the inquest into the deaths of four Irish Coast Guard aircrew in the Rescue 116 helicopter crash has recorded verdicts of accidental death.
The jury of eight started deliberations on Wednesday afternoon and resumed on Thursday morning.
