Covid patients

The number of patients in hospital with Covid-19 has increased to the highest level since April as Ireland finds itself in another wave of infections.

On Monday morning, data from the HSE showed there were 1,055 people in hospital with the virus, up from 987 on Sunday.

The last time Covid hospitalisations were over the 1,000-mark was on April 12th, when there were 1,004 people in hospital with the virus.

Back-to-school payment

Tens of thousands of households across the country will be able to receive a one-off back-to-school payment from today.

Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys confirmed the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance (BSCFA) will be paid to 124,000 families from Monday morning.

With recent cost-of-living increases, an extra €100 payment, announced last week and originally scheduled for August, has also been brought forward. This payment will be available from next Monday, July 18th.
