Ulster

Cavan have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Ulster Football Championship.

Gerard Smith's late goal helped them to a 3-12 to 1-12 win over Monaghan.

Tyrone now await Cavan in the last eight.

Leinster

There were wins for Wexford, Meath and Wicklow in the opening round of the Leinster Football Championship this afternoon.

Wexford recorded a 4-19 to 0-8 win over Carlow, Longford went down 3-19 to 3-12 to the Royals and Wicklow surprised Westmeath with a 2-9 to 1-11 victory.

Munster

We're set for another Cork and Kerry meeting in the Munster Football Championship this season.

The Rebels got past Limerick by 3-12 to 0-11 earlier today.

Clare will take on Waterford in the other side of the draw as the Deise beat Tipperary 2-7 to 1-5 in a first Munster win since 2010.

Connacht

Mayo are in New York ahead of getting their Connacht Football Championship campaign underway this evening.

That one is just underway in Gaelic Park.

Earlier, Sligo had no problems despatching Leitrim by 0-15 to 0-6.

Soccer

Liverpool rescued a 2-2 draw at fierce rivals Manchester United but missed the chance to return to the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool are now behind leaders Arsenal on goal difference.

Tottenham can climb above fourth-placed Aston Villa on goal difference with victory at home to strugglers Nottingham Forest this evening.

Rugby

Connacht have joined Ulster in the last-eight of the Challenge Cup today.

The western province had to battle back from 8 points down at half time to beat Pau by 40 points to 30.

Richie Murphy's side produced a strong second half to get past Montpellier by 40-17 in France.
