Leinster pipped rivals Munster by a single point in their United Rugby Championship clash in Thomond Park.

Tries from Scott Penny and Dan Sheehan — as well as a number of penalties from Ross Byrne — helped Leinster to a thrilling 20-19 victory.

Soccer

Liverpool beat Aston Villa 3-1 to move just 5 points away from the Champions League spots.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk put the Reds in front in the first half.

The home side got a goal back through Ollie Watkins, but Stefan Bajcetic sealed the win with 10 minutes to go.

Earlier, Newcastle have moved up to 2nd with a 3-0 win away to Leicester this afternoon.

Fulham claimed a 3-0 victory over nine-man Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The first Premier League game of the day finished 2-2 between Brentford and Tottenham.

Racing

The Willie Mullins-trained Saint Roi won the Grade One Brand New Racing Post App Novice Chase at Leopardstown.

The 3/1 shot beat the Gordon Elliott-trained Fil Dor  by two-and-a-quarter lengths in the feature race on Day One of the Christmas festival.
