Reid 'played with broken leg' against Arsenal

West Brom manager Steve Clarke has revealed fit-again defender Steven Reid played with a broken leg for 45 minutes of last month's clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Former Republic of Ireland international Reid made his comeback as a substitute during the midweek FA Cup tie against QPR at the Hawthorns, but Albion had kept the extent of his injury under wraps - until now.

Clarke said: "We didn't release the injury but it was a fractured fibula he got against Arsenal.

"He played for 45 minutes with a broken leg, which shows the character of the boy.

"I've put it out there because I want people to see the character of the boy.

"Sometimes people think 'Steven is always injured' but he has an incredible strong mental strength and he wants to play."

Clarke will make a late decision on whether to recall midfielder Claudio Yacob, who has been sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring injury, in Saturday's home derby with Aston Villa.

The Argentina international has returned to training, but Clarke said: "The game might come too soon, but we will have a look at him and make a decision. He's in a good place."

Clarke rates the chances of strikers Shane Long and Marc-Antoine Fortune of being fit to face Villa as 50-50 after a dead leg and hamstring injury, respectively.
