Manchester City have completed the £2m (€3m) transfer of Sweden goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson from French club Rennes.

City boss Stuart Pearce was eager to clinch the deal for 6ft 6ins Isaksson following the departure of David James to Portsmouth last week.

The 24-year-old has been capped 42 times by his country and was Sweden’s first-choice keeper during this summer’s World Cup.

Isaksson told City’s official website mcfc.co.uk: “It is a great club to come to, and to come to England and play for a club like Manchester City is an honour for me.

“I think the English league is the best in the world. It is tough, but I grew up with it on television in Sweden so it has always been a dream of mine to play in England.

“I feel good, I have been in training for three or four weeks and it should not take too much time to adjust to playing here, but I think it is more physical for keepers over here and tougher than in France. I am looking forward to that.”
