Derry are the first county through to the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-finals.

They topped Group 4 this eveinng with a 1-18 to 1-11 win over Clare at Pearse Park.

Elsewhere, Donegal beat Monaghan 0-19 to 0-17 in Omagh, meaning both teams advance.


The final round of group games in the All-Ireland Football Championship has gotten underway.

Top spot in Group 4 is still up for grabs with Monaghan facing Donegal in Omagh while Derry are taking on Clare at Pearse Park.

Both of those games have just thrown-in.

Down beat Cavan 1-17 to 0-15 this evening in their Tailteann Cup quarter-final at Kingspan Breffni Park.

They'll be joined in the last four by Meath who beat Wexford 2-23 to 0-12 in Navan and Laois after they beat Limerick 1-14 to 0-14 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.


Galway lead Cork 2-10 to 1-10 in the second half of their opening Ladies Senior All-Ireland Championship game at Pearse Stadium in Salthill.

Elsewhere today last year's runners-up Kerry beat Dublin 2-8 to 1-9 at Parnell Park, Armagh saw off Laois 3-12 to 2-8 and Donegal enjoyed a 2-10 to 1-8 win over Waterford.

Tipperary comfortably booked their place in the last eight of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship this afternoon.

They beat Offaly by 32 points in their preliminary quarter-final at Glenisk O'Connor Park.

7-38 to 3-18 was the final score and the Premier will face Galway next.

Soccer

After trailing for much of the game Scotland have come from behind to beat Norway 2-1 in their Group A European Qualifier in Oslo.

Lyndon Dykes and Kenny McLean with the goals for the visitors in the 87th and 89th minute.

That's three wins from three for the Scots.

Elsewhere in that group it's 1-1 at half-time between Cyprus and Georgia.

Golf

Rory McIlroy is two shots off the lead ahead of the third round of the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.

The World Number three sits on 8 under-par, with Rickie Fowler leading the way on 10-under.

Speaking after his second round, McIlroy is optimistic he will not have to wait much longer for another Major victory.
