McCarthy vows to reunite Tipp footballers

New Tipperary manager Seamus McCarthy has vowed to reunite the Premier footballers in the wake of the Andy Shorthall saga of the summer.

New Tipperary manager Seamus McCarthy has vowed to reunite the Premier footballers in the wake of the Andy Shorthall saga of the summer.

McCarthy, who was Tipp boss nine years ago, was ratified at Tuesday night's meeting of the county board in Thurles.

His selectors are Colm O'Flaherty, Jim Healy and John Owens, and the quartet will also take charge of the U21 footballers.

McCarthy said: "We have a two-fold purpose. One is to get the footballers back playing and the second one is to bring some unity and harmony back to the county."

Shortall and his selectors resigned during the summer in protest at the fixing of a club hurling tie involving two members of the football panel just days before Tipperary were due to play Fermanagh in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

The players sided with Shorthall and Tipperary failed to fulfil the qualifier fixture.
