Breen one day away from S2000 WRC title

Craig Breen remained in control today at Rally De Espana to hold his lead in the Super 2000 category of the World Rally Championship and put him one day away from winning a second successive world rally title.

The Waterford driver lead overnight by three minutes and 41 seconds and today concentrated on staying on the road and holding his lead in what were difficult conditions.

Breen’s title rival PG Andersson sat in second place and knew he would have to cut the 22-year-olds lead considerably to have any chance of overhauling him today.

Breen had a controlled drive today and over the six stages only dropped 25 seconds to the Swedish driver which means going into tomorrow’s final six stages, he is clear by three minutes and 19 seconds from Andersson.

If the Motorsport Ireland Driver of the Year can stay on the road tomorrow, he will become the S2000 World Rally Champion to add to the WRC Academy title he won in 2011.
