Gaelic Football

Galway have a measure of revenge over Armagh after the opening round of the National Football League this evening.

The hosts got the better of the All-Ireland football champions by 1-12 to 0-9 in Salthill earlier.

Reigning league champions Derry opened their title defence with a defeat. They came away from Healy Park with a 2-13 to 1-9 loss to Tyrone.

Dublin have beaten Mayo in Division 1 of the National Football League this evening.

Dublin won by two points at Croke Park, 1-17 to 1-15.

It was an entertaining game, where the new Gaelic Football rules seemed to work well.

Hurling

Cork kicked off their Division 1A campaign in style this evening.

They were too much for Wexford and came away from Chadwick's Wexford Park with a 2-21 to 0-12 win.

Declan Dalton and Chris Og Jones scored the goals for the visitors.

In Division 1 B, Davy Fitzgerald's first game in charge of Antrim ended in defeat.

They couldn't find a way past Dublin who ran out 1-25 to 0-14 winners.
