Donegal have beaten local rivals Tyrone at Ballybofey in their dress rehearsal for their meeting in the Ulster Championship.

The four-point win over Tyrone two weeks out from their quarter-final clash confirmed Donegal’s survival in the Allianz Football League Division 1, with the clash finishing Donegal 2-17 and Tyrone 2-13.

Jamie Brennan and Peadar Mogan were the goal scorers for Donegal, while a late Conor McKenna goal gave Tyrone hope they may claw their way back.

Ahead of throw in, both sides observed a moment of silence in honour of former Tyrone goalkeeper Johnny Curran who passed away this morning at the age of 33.

Mr Curran won three Ulster Senior Football Championship medals and a Celtic Cross in 2008 for the county.

Earlier this afternoon, Mayo eased their fears of relegation after they hammered Galway at Tuam Stadium, marking their return to the inter-county season with a remarkable 15-point win.

James Horan's men beat their local rivals by 3-23 to 0-17.

Elsewhere in the Allianz Football League in Division 2, Clare took on Fermanagh at Cusack Park while Kildare beat Cavan in Newbridge to move out of the relegation zone.
