Singer Patti Page dies
The 50s singing icon Patti Page - best known for hits including '(How Much Is That) Doggie in the Window' and 'Old Cape Cod' - passed away on Tuesday, in California, aged 85.
Patti - born Clara Ann Fowler - was the biggest female artist of the 50s in the US, selling over 100 million records in her career, charting 111 times, with 24 top 10 hits, including four number ones.
She also scored 15 gold records and three gold albums. In one of the highest honours of her career Patti's signature song, 'Tennessee Waltz', was made the official song of that state.
Patti - who was known as 'The Singing Rage' - also received stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Country Walk of Fame, and had toured up until her death.
Speaking in 1999, she said: "I was a kid from Oklahoma who never wanted to be a singer, but was told I could sing. And things snowballed."
The star is set to be honoured next month with a Lifetime Achievement trophy at the annual US Grammy Awards, and before her death had been planning to attend and collect it.
Patti is survived by her son, Daniel O'Curran, daughter Kathleen Ginn, and sister Peggy Layton.
