A film about a powerlifting Cork woman is set to make its world premiere at the IndieCork festival later this year.

Karen Barry is the main focus of the documentary 'Lift', made by Stanley's Deathpark Productions- a Dublin-London based production company founded by Cork natives, Ken Williams and Denis Fitzpatrick.

The film follows dental receptionist Karen's discovery of the sport and the 52-year-old's journey to the Minsk World Championships.

The production company behind the film have made a number of award-winning shorts, with their latest short film 'Blanket' also premiering at the festival.

Co-director Ken Williams said: "The striking thing for us wasn't just the achievements themselves, but the fact that Karen was a novice at the sport, only arriving at in her late forties. We instantly knew that there was a great story here worth telling, a family woman that you would have to on the street but who can also lift five times her body weight!"

Denis Fitzpatrick said they were delighted to be screening Lift "before a home crowd" and share the mum-of-three's story.

Lift will be shown at the Gate Multiplex, cork during IndieCork Film Festival which will run from October 6 to 13.
