Martin Clunes wants a role on 'Downton Abbey'.

The 51-year-old actor, who stars on ITV1's 'Doc Martin', revealed he has lobbied creator Julian Fellowes to appear on the acclaimed period drama, but he hasn't been taken up on his offer.

He said: "Julian is my neighbour. He lives just around the corner and I keep lobbying him but he won't. I might just ride into an episode out of spite.

"He knows where I am and what my measurements are, so it wouldn't be difficult."

The 'Men Behaving Badly' actor isn't the only star who hasn't heard from the show's creator, however.

Richard E. Grant, who appeared in the writer's Oscar-winning film 'Gosford Park' in 2001, is surprised Julian hasn't approached him to appear in 'Downton'.

He said: "I have no idea why I wasn't asked to be in 'Downton Abbey'. I know Julian, but I was never asked. I've never been up for it. Maybe next series."

Hollywood actress Anna Kendrick and Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts are also among the stars who would like to join the period drama, which stars Hugh Bonneville and Dame Maggie Smith.

Nicola, 27, said: "I would love to be in it, even if it was just for one episode.

"It's so amazing, I actually feel like it's real life. My friends all think I'm really weird."

'Downton Abbey' was recently re-commissioned for a fourth series, due next year.

A festive special will air on Christmas Day at 8:45pm on ITV1.
