Premiership: Desailly afraid of burn-out

Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly is afraid he may fail to cope with the pressure of the coming season.

Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly is afraid he may fail to cope with the pressure of the coming season.

The 32-year-old thinks the expectation on him at club level combined with the added burden of international games could affect him.

Three days before the start of the Premiership campaign, France take on Denmark and then head to Santiago to play Chile 12 days later.

With a number of other fixtures coming thick and fast Desailly is worried that it may be too much for him.

The Frenchman said: "I've questioned myself by thinking about the amount of weight that there's going to be on my shoulders over the coming months.

"In particular for the matches with the French team which are just around the corner.

"Will I be able to do everything knowing that I have so much to do with the club? I don't know. I am waiting for the Denmark match in Nantes to discuss it with French coach Roger Lemerre," Desailly said.
