The SDLP has said that it is still hopeful of a breakthrough in the peace

process before the British general election, which is now expected to take

place in early June.

There are several issues that remain unresolved, including demilitarisation, the ban on Sinn Fein ministers attending the North-South council meetings and decommissioning.

The SDLP are also seeking progress on the policing issue and the future of the police force in the North.
