Met Éireann has said that the spot flooding that affected some roads overnight should clear by lunchtime.

The Status Yellow alert for Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan remains in effect until 3pm this afternoon, however.

Joanna Donnelly, a meteorologist with Met Éireann, said that the worst of the rainfall is now clearing.

"There was a bent back occlusion bringing heavy rain overnight and we actually got some thunderstorms and local spot flooding early this morning up across the northeast.

"It is slowly clearing away now, it's in east Ulster at the moment, but it should clear up from all areas by lunchtime or early afternoon."
