SPL: Nerlinger set to complete Rangers switch

Christian Nerlinger is expected to complete a £2.5m move to Rangers tomorrow.

Christian Nerlinger is expected to complete a £2.5m move to Rangers tomorrow.

The 28-year-old Germany midfielder will be paraded at Ibrox if he successfully agrees personal terms and completes his medical.

Chairman David Murray confirmed: "Christian is flying in tonight and we expect to complete signing formalities tomorrow, when he will also undergo a medical examination."

The Borussia Dortmund star is looking for fresh start after injury problems this season and Rangers are confident that the deal will go through.

"There are only a couple of odds and ends to tie up and the deal will be completed," Murray said. "I'm sure he will be an excellent addition to Dick Advocaat's squad."

Nerlinger has great Champions League experience and has also won two Bundesliga titles.

He will become the club's second signing of the summer after the capture of Argentine striker Claudio Caniggia from Dundee.

Advocaat is gradually bolstering the squad following the departures of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Jorg Albertz, Sergio Porrini, Rod Wallace and the impending transfer of Tugay to Blackburn subject to a successful appeal for a work permit.

There is, however, no further news on Rangers' interest in Derby midfielder Seth Johnson.

Murray added: "We made an offer which was turned down and there has been no development since then."
