West Brom manager Gary Megson today insisted that dissenting voices would not be allowed to wreck the spirit at the relegation-threatened club.
Megson claimed that one or two people at the club were happy with the Baggies’ 2-1 home defeat at the hands of West Ham on Sunday because it furthered their own cause.
Megson would not identify whom he was referring to but called on everyone at the club to pull in the same direction for the increasingly difficult task of staying in the Barclaycard Premiership.
Albion are now five points adrift of safety after the setback against the Hammers and face a difficult trip to Southampton at the weekend.
Megson said: “I hoped there was nobody here on Sunday who was pleased with that result against West Ham.
“I hoped that everybody within the organisation of West Bromwich Albion is committed to the task of keeping this club in the Premiership.
“But there were one or two people on the periphery of things who were pleased with the result because they felt it served their own cause.
“But we have got a fantastic spirit at this club and those dissenting voices will not be allowed to disturb it. “
Megson also insisted that there has been no bust-up between himself and veteran striker and fans favourite Bob Taylor.
Taylor is now back to fitness after a lengthy lay-off but is not figuring in Megson’s first team plans.
Supporters have been questioning why the 35-year-old is not even being given a substitute’s role given the lack of goals from Jason Roberts, Lee Hughes, Danny Dichio and Scott Dobie.
But Megson insisted: “I do not have personal bust-ups. Managers have to make decisions which cannot please everybody.”
Taylor is having to content himself with reserve team football in what is his testimonial season at a club he first joined 11 years ago.
