A 58-year-old Scottish man was charged today with the murder of a Waterford woman whose body was found in the boot of her car.
Samuel Jennings was remanded in custody after a short hearing at Waterford District Court. He was granted free legal aid and will reappear next Thursday.
Mr Jennings was arrested in Rosslare, Co Wexford, on Thursday. His 33-year-old wife was arrested two hours later in Kilmacthomas, near Waterford, but released without charge.
Gardaí are still hunting for a weapon used in the killing of 54-year-old Mary Walsh, from Kilrossanty, near Leamybrien. The €10,000 cash she had on her when she disappeared has also not been located.
The mother-of-two’s remains were discovered in the boot of her own car in Cathal Brugha Street in the Mount Sion area of the city.
Mrs Walsh was reported missing last Monday evening.
She worked as an insurance collection agent but failed to arrive for an appointment at the bank in Kilmacthomas, five miles from her home, where she had been due to lodge the money.
Her blue Hyundai Coupe was spotted in Mount Sion on Wednesday and reported to Gardaí. Mrs Walsh’s remains were found in the boot when it was transferred to Tramore Garda station.
Results of post mortem tests have not been disclosed.
She is survived by her husband Pat and two grown-up daughters, a nurse and a bank official, who have appealed to be left in peace to deal with the tragedy.
