The SDLP leader is calling on the British government to introduce outstanding legislation that would allow Sinn Fein to join the Northern Ireland Policing board.
Mark Durkan was speaking outside Irish Government buildings after an SDLP delegation met with the Taoiseach to discuss the current state of the peace process.
The bulk of the meeting saw Mark Durkan brief the Taoiseach about the SDLP meeting with British PM, Tony Blair, earlier this week.
The main issues discussed centred around the Irish Government’s plan to introduce legislation to enable members of the Gardai function in the North.
Durkan indicated that so far there has been little movement in London to introduce reciprocal legislation.
He said this was needed quickly as it would help significantly in moving Sinn Fein towards a position whereby it could join the new Northern Ireland Policing Board.
Mark Durkan called on Sinn Fein to get in there and fight for change.
He said by staying away from the Northern Ireland Policing Board, it’s voice would not be heard.
