Radical new plans to harmonise euro-taxes from Brussels are due to be unveiled by the European Commission tomorrow.
Commission president Romano Prodi is announcing the Commission’s proposals to be put to a convention discussing Europe’s future.
He is promoting a single tax regime and new powers for the Commission to take control of European foreign policy.
The Convention, a 100-strong gathering of national and European politicians, Commission officials and business leaders, are preparing plans to be put to EU governments in 2004 on the future shape of the European Union.
The Convention has no legal powers and the Commission’s proposals are just a small part of discussions which will last for months.
The final decisions will be taken unanimously by EU leaders.
