SDLP leader Mark Durkan has said his optimism about the possibility of saving the Good Friday Agreement is ebbing away as the days pass by with no sign of progress.
Speaking at the Irish Institute in Dublin last night, Mr Durkan accused the Ulster Unionists and Sinn Fein of creating the crisis and of failing to show a willingness to overcome it.
He said neither party has shown the necessary determination to take the steps needed to save the agreement and accused them of following the narrow, self-serving agenda of party politics.
The SDLP leader insisted that the 1998 peace deal is and will continue to be the best prospect for peace and progress in the North.
