Venus Williams has eased into the second round of the French Open as she beat Bianka Lamade in straight sets.

Williams reached the second round with a 6-3 6-3 win at Roland Garros.

The number two seed has just recovered from a wrist injury and struggled to find her rhythm against the 19-year-old German.

But Williams was still too good for Lamade, who went for winners too often.

Williams' superior backhand and accurate groundstrokes eventually won the day.
