Ian Harte is hoping for a recall to the Ireland squad to face Croatia later this month after making a bright start to his career in Spain.
Harte has been ever-present as Levante have climbed to fifth in Spain's Primera Liga but he has missed out on Brian Kerr’s last three Irish international squads.
While the defender has been delighted with Ireland's recent performances, he admits he is bitterly disappointed not to be involved. “I don’t understand. I’ve no idea at all why I’m not in the squads,” he says.
“When I have been involved with Ireland recently, I’ve done well. In the last two squads, I was in we played against the Czech Republic and won 2-1, and I scored from a free-kick. Against Australia I was involved in creating two goals when I came on as a substitute.
“I don’t expect to be in the first XI because John O’Shea has been doing fantastic but I do believe I should be in the squad...I’ve just got to keep playing well for my club as I have been doing.”
