Nick Heidfeld came out on top in a head-to-head testing showdown with Williams rival Antonio Pizzonia at Jerez today.
The pair are battling it out for a race seat with Williams but after lengthy sessions today in Spain, Heidfeld ended the day with the fastest time.
Testing times are difficult to interpret but Heidfeld’s time, just over a 10th of a second quicker than his Brazilian rival, will have brought a smile to the German’s face.
Toyota’s Ricardo Zonta set the quickest time overall, followed closely by the McLarens of Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya, who finished second and third respectively on their first outing together.
The Williams duo followed in fourth and fifth while Jenson Button was down in ninth for BAR.
