Mel Gibson’s arraignment on misdemeanour drunken driving charges was advanced to today, the district attorney’s office said.
A judge granted a request made by Gibson’s attorney, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles County prosecutors.
The actor-director was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while having a 0.08% or higher blood-alcohol level, and possessing an open container of alcohol while driving.
Gibson was stopped around 2.30am on July 28 while driving on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu and made anti-Semitic remarks to the arresting deputy, plunging Gibson into a scandal that forced him to later apologise for what he called “belligerent behaviour” and “despicable” remarks.
The time of the arraignment in Malibu Superior Court was not immediately known.
Arraignment had been originally set for September 28.
Gibson did not have to appear, but the judge may have requested him to show up, Robison said.
