Reid says he doesn't agree with Trimble's anti-Ireland remarks

Northern Secretary John Reid has said he does not agree with David Trimble’s description of Ireland as a "pathetic, sectarian, mono-cultural and mono-ethnic" state.

Northern Secretary John Reid has said he does not agree with David Trimble’s description of Ireland as a "pathetic, sectarian, mono-cultural and mono-ethnic" state.

Speaking in Washington, Dr Reid said he recognises the vast economic, political and social changes that have taken place in Ireland in recent decades.

The Northern Secretary was commenting after Mr Trimble refused to apologise or to withdraw his remarks yesterday.
