Insania as Peter Andre takes UK's top spot

Last month Peter Andre was being dubbed a former pop star who was about to appear in a reality TV show.

But today, Andre, 31, is back at the top of the charts today with his single Mysterious Girl.

Now he is poised to record a new album and delight old fans and woo the new thanks to his appearance on TV’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

Andre’s loyal fan base appears not to have left him but new-found fame and subsequent chart success is perhaps the kick-start his pop career needed.

Mysterious Girl peaked at the second slot when it was first released in 1996 and today beat Westlife’s single Obvious to the pole position – the boyband song came in at third place.

Andrew launched his music career in Australia in the early 1990s and was a massive star by 1996.

But by the end of the decade his career had faded after he apparently turned his back on the music industry.

During his stay in the jungle for the ITV show it became apparent that the fans who had helped make him were still loyal.

The muscled singer still boasted the “six-pack” which had helped make him a sex symbol a decade ago but in the Australian outback he also displayed a sensitive side.

He spoke of a failed love affair and fell for fellow contestant Katie Price, otherwise known as glamour model Jordan. The two were one of the show’s main talking points.

Andre left the jungle in third place out of ten contestants and vowed to release Insaniamania, a song he had penned while there.

The singer last week said if he made it to Number One on Sunday he would telephone radio DJ Chris Moyles who campaigned for the single to be re-released.

And he said he would spray his room with champagne.

Andre has pledged to donate some of the proceeds from the single to children’s charity the NSPCC.
