New British Ambassador to Dublin appointed

A new British Ambassador to Dublin has been appointed to replace Sir Ivor Roberts who has served in the post for more than three years, it was announced today.

A new British Ambassador to Dublin has been appointed to replace Sir Ivor Roberts who has served in the post for more than three years, it was announced today.

Stewart Eldon, 49, worked in the Republic of Ireland Department of Britain’s Foreign Office in the early eighties.

Since then he served as Deputy head of the Middle East Department during the Gulf War.

He has also served on the UK delegation to NATO, after working at Harvard in the early nineties.

His most recent posting was as the Deputy Representative at the UK mission in New York.

Mr Eldon is married to Christine, and has one daughter and a son.
