Uttoxeter will stage a precautionary inspection at 4pm ahead of their scheduled meeting tomorrow.
Although the course is currently protected by fleece, clerk of the course Charlie Moore fears they may not be enough with temperatures due to fall dramatically from midday onwards.
“Our forecasts suggest it could start freezing from midday and if it does that then the frost could start to get into the ground,” said Moore.
“We have covers but we’ve had rain and they are now soaking wet. They are not going to get the chance to dry out before it freezes.
“The inspection may not be conclusive but we’ve put it to give us a chance to update everyone.
“There is a chance that if we got the very best end of the forecast, we could sneak it, but we do need it to be at the best end.
“We know the covers work well to minus 3C, but wet covers and temperatures of minus 5C, which we’re forecast, we’re not familiar with.”
